Avia Travel, Asia Specialist,Custom and Small Groups

Avia Travel was established in 1987 by VIA (formerly Volunteers in Asia), a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing understanding between the United States and Asia. Since 1963, VIA has provided Americans with opportunities to work and live within Asian cultures while meeting the needs of Asian host institutions. VIA also offers a wide range of short-term, international study programs between the U.S. and Asia. For more information, please visit

Avia Travel began as VIA's travel desk, located in its Stanford University offices. Eventually Avia Travel moved off-campus to better serve students, faculty and the general public seeking creative, affordable fares. Avia Travel is now independent of VIA though we still support VIA's mission in spirit and continue to make individual and group travel arrangements for many educational, non-profit, and non-governmental organizations.

We offer much more than low airfares. We work directly with clients on custom programs designed to fit their travel interests, styles and budgets. We are particularly proud of our work helping groups and individuals to travel responsibly and sensitively with regard to the local environment. Together with our trusted land operators in Asia we offer many years of expertise, competitive rates, and service especially for travel to Asia, specifically China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Our international staff and management are well traveled and are ready to assist you with all aspects of your trip. In this age of Skype, instant messaging, Facebook, etc., the physical location of a travel agency is far less important than its ability to provide knowledgeable, prompt and caring services.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to many of our clients who have so graciously contributed more than 90% of the photos on this website. We love sharing these snapshots of the world as seen through their eyes.

We look forward to working with you on your travel plans.
